Hints  and  Tips
Did you know that having a power shower uses the same amount of water as having a bath? Showers use as much electricity as your oven or electric fire so that leisurely wash in the morning may be costing more than you think. Water saving shower heads are available which reduce the water consumption

and save you money!!

Running a washing machine or dishwasher half full will cost you the same amount as if it was fully loaded. Washing  clothes at 30° C costs a third less than washing at 60° C and modern powders work at lower temperatures just as efficiently.  If your machine is on it’s last legs think about getting an ‘A’ rated appliance to replace it – a more efficient machine uses less electricity and so costs less to
run.

Always charging up your phone, iPod or camera?   A new generation of solar chargers mean that you can charge up using nothing more than sunlight. Simply leave  the charger on a windowsill for a few hours and it is ready for up to 44 hours of charge time.

The average kettle uses about 3,000 watts to boil us a brew.....    not brilliant when you think that over 28% of the population admit to boiling more than the water they need for a cuppa. There are energy saving kettles available which dispense the right amount of water for a cup of tea- so only heat what you need!

Getting your electricity bill often is a bit of a  shock- how can keeping your home warm and bright cost so much? We have current cost monitors for you to try at home for free.  They require no wiring and give you a real time reading of not only how much electricity you are using but also how much it is costing. So now you can see just how much a leisurely shower or leaving the hall light on all night actually costs you.

Don’t stay in the dark-enjoy a lighter, brighter 2010

Replacing  all the  bulbs in your house could save you over £37 a year as each one uses 80% less electricity to produce the same amount of light

We hold a selection of energy saving bulbs in a variety of sizes and fitment types for you to try at home. There are soft tone bulbs for a warmer glow, dimmable bulbs and even compact fluorescent bulbs!
